Welcome to Baba Slings! Today we are realising the magnitude of carrying our children in baby slings and baby carriers. Something which is both practical for Parent and comforting to Baby. This was a cherished part of our culture/s before modernisation, practised for centuries by our ancestors with little exception as to which gene pool we spring from. This is a very important point that many people are unaware of. We think back to the quite recent days of austere parenting, and believe that to be our origins in Parenting, but essentially, we belong, as a humanity to a much kinder and more nurturing gene pool then that. Why, even looking at the way that primates (our very distant relations)  interact with their young, a Babe is either constantly attached to it’s Mother, or not far from her. Though usually attached.   Animals naturally carry their young (if they are able to do so), it is a way of ensuring their survivial. As a people, being natural is something that we have tried desperately to move away from, however  everything about mothering and parenting is, natural - carrying our babe in our wombs, the act of giving birth, of breast feeding, tired eyes,  unkempt hair and unshaven legs. Much of what we once thought to be important falls away when holding our newborn for the first time.  We realise it is not only our little ones that need to be close to us, but our need to be close to them. It is not just simply holding our child, but a deep, heart-felt connection, and healing to our humanity, to those who came before us, and the precious one that will carry the seed of love into the future.
